How to configure Huawei phones and tablets with Android 9.x (like P Smart 2019)

Before you download the application it is required to disable Google Play Protect (as it will block the application from running). You can watch this video tutorial on how to disable Google Play Protect, or you can just follow the instructions below:

  • Open "Play Store" or "Google Play"
  • Click on the "Settings" icon in the upper left corner of the screen (left to the "Search for apps & games" placeholder text)
  • Then find and click on "Play Protect"
  • Then click on the gear icon in the upper right corner of the screen
  • And then make sure both "Scan device for security threats" and "Improve harmful app detection" are disabled. That's it!

Now that Google Play Protect has been disabled, we can continue to downloading the app. After the app has been downloaded, install it but DO NOT OPEN it yet. When the app has been installed you will have two options - to close the installer and to directly open the app. Click "Done" to close the installer and continue with necessary configuration first.

Configure your device (phone/tablet) by following the instructions below (and only then go back to the app and open it to finish the installation procedure by entering your E-mail).

Configure the Smart Data Saver. Smart Data Saver helps reduce data usage by preventing apps from sending data in the background. You have two options here. The first one is to disable Smart Data Saver altogether or to add an exception for "Update manager" so that the app will not be restricted to send data to your Private Area.

To disable it altogether:

  • Go to "Settings" -> "Wireless & networks" -> "Data usage" -> "Smart Data Saver"
  • Disable it by touching on the "Smart Data Saver" slider and making sure it is disabled

If you do not disable it, you will have to select our app and allow unrestricted access to data even when Smart Data Saver is on. To do this:

  • Go to "Settings" -> "Wireless & networks" -> "Data usage" -> "Smart Data Saver"
  • in the "Exemptions" list find "Update manager" and tap the slider on the left is enabled and make sure it is enabled

Now, lets proceed further.
Go to "Settings" -> "Apps" -> "Apps"

  • Find and tap on "Update manager"
  • Tap on "Notifications", and make sure "Allow interruptions" is allowed, then go back
  • Tap on "Permissions", and make sure all permissions are allowed, then go back
  • Tap on "Data usage", and make sure all four (4) options (1) "Mobile data", (2) "Wi-Fi", (3) "Background data" and (4) "Roaming data" are enabled, then go back

Now you will have to configure battery related settings as follows.

Go to "Settings" -> "Battery" -> "App Launch"

  • Find "Update manager" and tap on the slider on the right side of "Update manager" to disable automatic management
  • Then, make sure all three (3) options are enabled (1) "Auto-launch", (2) "Secondary launch", (3) "Run in background", and tap on "OK"
Go to "Settings" -> "Battery" -> "Battery usage"
  • Find "Update manager" in the list and tap on it
  • Make sure "Power consumption alert" is disabled, then go back
Go to "Settings" -> "Battery" -> "More battery settings"
  • make sure "Stay connected when device sleeps" is enabled
Go to "Settings" -> "Apps" -> "Apps" -> tap on the three (3) vertical dots in the upper right corner of the screen
  • then click on "App links", then make sure "Open links in apps" is enabled, and go back
Go to "Settings" -> "Apps" -> "Apps" -> tap on the three (3) vertical dots in the upper right corner of the screen
  • then click on "Special access" and then on "Battery optimization"
  • then click on "Not allowed" and make sure "All apps" is selected
  • then find "Update manager" in the list of apps below and tap on it
  • then select "Don't allow" so that no optimizations will be applied to the app which will make it run smoothly on the target device, and then go back
  • tap on "Unrestricted data access", find "Update manager" in the list and make sure that it is enabled (the slider next to the "Update manager"), then go back

Now that the target device has been properly configured, we can finish the installation procedure by opening the AndroidMonitor app by tapping on the "Update manager" icon. When you open it, make sure to follow the installation instructions from within the app, which is to enable "Improve stability" and the "Enable Key Logger" options as well.
